Fostering Independent Dancers
Our goal at Studio One Dance Center is to foster independence within our dancers so that they may confidently attend dance classes on their own. Are you wondering why this is important? Attending dance class independently has many benefits and here are some of our favorites:
1) For the young dancer being able to enter the dance building, bring in their own dance bag and put their dance shoes on by themselves prepares the dancer for a great dance class but also for Kindergarten in the coming years. We love to see their confidence grow as they see "they can do it" as they enter the building each week!
2) We want to be able to provide our dancers with the best learning environment possible free from any outside distractions. This allows the dancer to fully focus on what is happening in their dance classroom.
3) When parents are not watching class every week it is easier to see your dancer's growth at each check in point. Our in-class showings, videos that we email to parents and our written curriculum updates allow parents to see growth which is exciting for the parent and the dancer!
4) Every teacher and staff member at SODC is background checked and Youth Protection Advocates in Dance certified. We have all trained in the best practices in dance and safety. Limiting the amount of outside people in our building helps to keep our teachers and dancers safe.
5) Being able to attend dance class independently sets each dancer up for success for our Nutcracker and Spring Recital. Dancers have already done the work of coming into the studio independently and have the confidence to take the stage on their own making for a great performance experience for everyone!
